Meet the Author ...Sheila Goodfriend
Sheila Goodfriend, retired elementary
and special education teacher published the American
Dream Reading Program in November 2002. On
November 30, 2004, the United States Patent Office issued
inventor, Sheila Goodfriend the U.S. Patent 6,824,388, of
“STRONG AND WEAK VOWEL METHOD OF TEACHING READING.”
This new method empowers teachers and parents to provide
memorable techniques to teach their students and children
respectively how to decode independently and with success.
Originally from New Jersey, Sheila and
her husband,
Dr. Allan Goodfriend have made Maryland their home for over
32 years. They have three children…Laurie, Lisa,
and Steven and two grandchildren....Ellie and Marissa.
The American
Dream Reading Program was conceived in 1963 when Sheila
began writing her own material for the children in her classes.
For twenty-one years, she formally taught accelerated, moderately
paced, and delayed first grade children … and ultimately
special needs children… including LD (learning disabled).
After retiring in 1997, Sheila began compiling her material
and with encouragement from administrators, colleagues, and
parents, she published her textbooks in 2002 so that, “No
Child Is Left Behind.” Currently, Sheila conducts
seminars, PowerPoint presentations, consultations, and works
privately with children.
